Who may Apply:

All applicants must be a current recipient of housing assistance from the Fort Worth Housing Solutions (FWHS), and must plan to attend a postsecondary educational institution in one of the following:

• Associate Degree program at a non-profit postsecondary institution

• Bachelor Degree program at a non-profit postsecondary institution

• Vocational or Technical certifi cation program lasting 9 months or longer offered by a non-profit postsecondary institution.

When: The deadline to apply is May 13, 2016.

Entries will be accepted using the online application entry form ONLY.

No written or emailed applications will be accepted. Please visit the website at bhefund.org to complete an online application.

Barbara Holston Education Fund (BHEF) Awards two Scholarships to Students in FWHA Programs

 Fort Worth, TX – The Barbara Holston Education Fund (BHEF) is proud to announce its first two scholarship award winners! These students are FWHA program participants and are currently pursuing higher education degrees and/or vocational certifications. Each recipient will receive

$1,000 and may be eligible for renewal for up to 3 years, and funds may be used to cover expenses such as tuition, books, supplies, tools and other fees. Students will be recognized during the July Fort Worth Housing Authority (FWHA) Board Meeting and presented with an award certificate by members of the BHEF Board.

BHEF 2015 Scholarship Recipients:

RobynMitchell

Robyn Mitchell, a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program participant will use the scholarship to support her current enrollment at Concorde Career College where she is studying to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Robyn will graduate August 2016. The BHEF award will be a huge financial help for me while I pursue my studies in nursing school. It’s also a wonderful way to acknowledge the importance of furthering education for low-income individuals. What a great program!” – Robyn

 

JohnnyWarren

Johnny Warren, a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program participant will use the scholarship to continue his online studies in criminal justice at Kaplan College. After graduation in December 2016, Johnny plans to join other family members in the Private Investigation/Process Server field. “The BHEF award will provide great support for my schooling, not just financially, but also in terms of morale. To be recognized by this legendary program is both an honor and extremely humbling.” – Johnny

 

“The Barbara Holston Education Fund is designed to support the educational dreams of families currently receiving housing assistance through the Fort Worth Housing Authority,” said Riza Nolasco, President of the BHEF Board. “These two recipients are perfect examples of what the education fund is designed to do, and both Ms. Mitchell and Mr. Warren have ambitious plans to further their education and strive for career advancement that will ultimately assist them in their goals to achieve economic independence.”
